Riverside Cantata 58-Inch Computer Desk and Hutch

You don't have to have a massive home office - or a home office at all - to get the best use of the Riverside Cantata 58-Inch Computer Desk and Hutch. This small-scale traditional desk-and-hutch set isn't too deep, so it won't hog floor space in small offices or living rooms. And with all its convenient, built-in storage options, it can take the place of bulkier shelving units in a room, too.

The desk and hutch are crafted from durable poplar hardwood solids and cherry and birch veneers matched and finished in a warm, stately burnished cherry. All drawers are constructed with dovetail joinery and smooth, full-extension, ball-bearing guides. In the desk, two storage drawers on the right-hand side can catch papers and folders, and the top drawer boasts soft felt-lining and a pencil tray to protect paperweights and fine writing tools. At the bottom, a locking file drawer can accommodate letter and legal hanging files. A pullout writing shelf above the drawers offers additional space when you're working on a large task.

The desk's knee drawer has a hinged, drop-front face and can be pulled out for use as a laptop or keyboard tray, or you can leave the drawer as-is and use it conventionally. At the back is a double electrical outlet and wiring access holes, the latter of which also make an appearance in the bottom of the drawer. At the base of the kneewell is a fixed shelf for books and bulky items.

Next to the desk drawers is an enclosed CPU compartment. The door opens to a fixed bottom shelf, a center adjustable shelf, and a sliding back panel for easy, clutter-free wiring access and ventilation. More wiring holes and ventilation slots are built into the inside end panel of the CPU storage area as well, so equipment won't overheat.

The coordinating hutch features two upper right-hand doors enclosing one adjustable center shelf and one fixed bottom panel. An open shelving area on the opposite side can house display items, and below, a mounted light illuminates the desk's work area. Between the hutch's shelves is a full-length CD rack with dividers to make storing music and computer programs a snap. Wiring access holes are located in the back panel.
