A thermofused melamine surface protects the desk top from scratches, burns, and stains. The pullout keyboard shelf rides on quiet ball-bearing slides.     Good design. Went together fairly easily, except for attaching the top--and I am definitely not a handyman! This desk replaced a desk with a monitor well that didn't handle my new widescreen monitor, and it has a ton of space on the top. Easily handles the monitor, my printer, plus the usual piles of stuff I can't seem to avoid, and still has plenty of working space. The biggest drawback is that all the edges are very sharp, and I actually drew blood on a few encounters. I am very careful swivelling my chair at this desk! Overall, I am very pleased.
